As the global ESG movement accelerates, many small and medium-sized businesses are grappling with the issue of compliance. But in Taoyuan, two companies have already moved beyond meeting regulatory requirements. Using governance-driven sustainability to influence their entire supply chain, they are demonstrating an undeniable truth: genuine competitiveness comes from lifting the whole industry, not advancing alone.

Among last year’s finalists for the Taoyuan Golden Enterprise Award in the ESG Governance category, SHIEH YIH MACHINERY INDUSTRY CO., LTD. (SEYI) and EISO Enterprise Co., Ltd. (EISO) attracted particular attention. These companies are not large, yet their sustainability vision exceeds that of many large corporations; they manage their own operations and strive to enhance the ecosystem in which they operate.

Crisis Awareness as a Catalyst: Why They Started Early

 

“ESG is broad and complicated—there are countless threads to follow. But at the very least, you must get the regulatory basics right,” stated Cheng-Wei Lee, General Manager of SEYI.

 

Founded 63 years ago, SEYI is a press manufacturer, with more than 90% of its business coming from Europe, the United States, and Japan. The ESG requirements of its international clients made the company acutely aware that sustainability was no longer an option.

 

SEYI’s main products are servo presses. The company’s applications have evolved, from supplying the 3C and toy industries in its early years to serving the automotive, aerospace, medical, and defense sectors today. Lee describes this as “putting new wine into an old bottle”; that is, using new control and drive systems to breathe new life into traditional technology.
